How to Beat the Heat in the Treasure Valley

It's officially summer here in the Treasure Valley, and it seems like the weather finally got the memo as well. The good news is that while the outside temperature is making its climb toward triple digits, there are tons of ways to beat the heat here in the Boise, Meridian, and Eagle areas while having fun too. Here are a few local favorites.

Find a Pool, Lake, or Anywhere to Take a Splash

For being a highland desert environment, there are surprisingly many wet and wild opportunities in the Treasure Valley. If you're one that likes thrills and wants to make a day out of the hydro-ventures, you should head to Roaring Springs Water Park, a local summer destination. There, you can spend hours flying down the waterslides and testing your adrenaline on the Avalanche and other attractions. Plus, if you're more of a kick back and relax person, the Endless River and its quarter-mile loop are calling your name.

Besides the water park, there are many different natural and manmade watering holes here too. From Lucky Peak State Park to Quinn’s Pond and a plethora of community pools, you don’t have to look far to find a place to take a dip in the summer.

Step Inside and Excite Your Taste Buds

If you would rather get out of the sun completely, you can’t beat stopping in at one of the best places to eat in Meridian. With a big group, you should look for a restaurant that offers a little bit of something for everyone. Take Ling & Louie’s Asian Bar and Grill for example. The restaurant specializes in Asian fusion cuisine that will present you with flavors and combinations you might never have tried before, plus American comfort food with a fun twist. Enjoy the A/C and chill atmosphere while savoring some of the best food in the Treasure Valley.

Take Part in a Uniquely-Boise Tradition

If you've ever had the privilege of visiting the Treasure Valley in the summertime, then you might be well aware of the infamous Boise River and the excitement that rolls throughout the city as the temperatures heat up. Floating the river is a pastime like no other here in Idaho, and the best part is one needs to do little more than inflate their tubes and hop on in.

From there, floaters kick back and relax as the river takes them from the launching point at Barber Park all the way to the take-out point at Ann Morrison Park. The entire journey is 6 miles long and takes around two hours in total. On a hot July or August day, there really isn’t any better way to cool off than on the river—just make sure to bring your sunscreen!

Head to Happy Hour

Finally, when all else fails, a cold drink on a hot summer day succeeds. Gather your friends and head to happy hour in Eagle ID area. Again, you can stick with the tried-and-true classic cocktails and drinks, but why not venture outside of your comfort zone for something truly unique? Places like Ling & Louie’s Asian Bar and Grill are known for their exotic signature cocktails, and their happy hour deals are almost unbeatable.
